The incident occurred in Dutchess County at 2:40 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in LaGrange.

According to New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks, an initial investigation determined Joseph W. LaFave, age 35, of LaGrange, driving a 2017 BMW X1, traveled north in the southbound lane on the Taconic State Parkway in the area of Todd Hill Road.

Hicks said LaFave struck a 2017 Lincoln Navigator head-on in the left southbound lane.

LaFave was pronounced dead on the scene by responding paramedics.

The driver of the Lincon Navigator, Suffolk County resident William F. Scheibel, age 69, of Wading River, was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where he was later pronounced dead, Hicks said.

Scheibel’s passenger, a 67-year-old woman, was also transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation remains ongoing.

LaGrange Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, Beekman EMS, and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office were all on the scene.
